Reflecting on a trip of life: a weekend celebrating the ‘85ers, the first US Women’s National team players

1985 First US Women’s National Team

Flame Bearers had the incredible opportunity to travel to Asheville, North Caroline at the end of June to meet and celebrate the reunion for the original 1985 US Women’s Soccer team. Honestly, it was one of the most fun and special weekends of my life. The 85ers were so happy to be reunited with each other officially after 38 years, and welcomed our team into the weekend activities so graciously. Thank you to Asheville City Soccer Club, Element Asheville, and the 1985 US Women’s Soccer team for the incredible warmth and hospitality!

I enjoyed hearing the origins of the OOSA chant, watching these women juggling and hitting targets flawlessly and cheering on the next generation where the team was honored at halftime the Asheville City Soccer Club’s final home game of the season, and signed autographs for fans for over 2 hours!

I am excited to share memories and reflections from this celebratory weekend, as well as highlight these incredible role models with the release of Flame Bearers Season 4: Special Edition US Women’s Soccer Originals. I can’t wait for these women stories to be shared more widely with the world and for their mark on soccer to be forever remembered.
